The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia chaired the meeting for the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management for Arab States, held Thursday during the GeoGov Middle East Summit in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting gathered representatives from several Arab countries, along with a prominent group of experts and specialists in the field of geospatial information. Saudi Arabia is the committee’s current chair.

The meeting reviewed the committee’s progress during 2025 and discussed the objectives of the technical working groups for the coming year, in a manner that strengthening Arab cooperation and advancing the geospatial ecosystem. Such efforts aim at supporting sustainable development, and keeps pace with the directions of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM).

The meeting was attended by official delegations representing Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Iraq, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the Republic of Tunisia.

The meeting addressed a number of topics on the agenda, most notably discussions on the progress of specialized technical committees, the review of joint geospatial initiatives, and mechanisms to enhance Arab coordination in managing geospatial data in accordance with international standards.

Participants underscored the importance of strengthening Arab integration in the field of geospatial information management and promoting the exchange of expertise and knowledge among member states. These efforts, they affirmed, would maximize the use of geospatial data in achieving sustainable development goals across the Arab region.

As​ the national regulator, GEOSA is responsible for regulating the sector of survey, geospatial information and imaging in the Kingdom, representing the Kingdom locally and internationally, coordinating and cooperating with its counterparts in other countries as well as relevant international agencies and organizations.
