The Kingdom, represented by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA), hosted today in Riyadh, the UN Working Group on Policy and Legal Frameworks for Geospatial Information Management third meeting for three days. The working group is one of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) Groups. It is playing a leading role in raising awareness and highlighting the importance of sound policy and legal framework for geospatial information management at the highest levels to promote development, innovation, formulating such policies and frameworks, and setting out basic rules, principles, and guidelines for geospatial policies. The group has a memberships of 20 countries: Saudi Arabia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Australia, Belgium, India, Italy, Canada, Qatar, Bahrain, Finland, Mexico, Algeria, Morocco, Malaysia, Poland, the UAE, Kuwait, and South Africa.

H.E.Dr. Al-Sayel, emphasized that the Kingdom’s participation in this high-level meeting represents the pivotal column that has, indeed, enabled the Kingdom to acquire a high place among the forefront countries highly advanced in the geospatial field both on the regional and international levels. he said, the Kingdom was indeed able to press on with its leading role through an active membership in the UN-GGIM and its chairmanship of the Arab Committee of UN-GGIM Experts.

He said that, the Kingdom, represented by GEOSA, earlier this year has hosted the Fifth High-Level Forum on Global Geospatial Information Management in Riyadh, as well as the twelfth meeting of the UN-GGIM- AS Committee of UN-GGIM Experts on Geospatial Information Management.

Dr. Al-Sayel stressed that the significant achievements realized by the Kingdom in the geospatial sector reflect the vision and directives of its wise leadership, which continues to support national and global efforts to enhance the role of geospatial information in achieving sustainable development and advancing indicators and classifications related to the UN’s global development goals.

It is worth noting that, GEOSA is an official body assigned to regulate the sector of survey, geospatial information and imaging in the Kingdom, including coordinating and cooperating with its counterparts in other countries as well as relevant international agencies and organizations, also representing the Kingdom locally and internationally.
