The fifth plenary meeting of the High-level Group of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (HLG-IGIF) concluded on Monday. The meeting was held from February 2 - 3,2025G coinciding with the twelfth meeting of the Regional Committee of the United Nations The fifth plenary meeting of the High-level Group of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (HLG-IGIF) concluded on Monday. The meeting was held from February 2 - 3,2025G coinciding with the twelfth meeting of the Regional Committee of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) for the Arab States.

The High-Level Group is one of the UN-GGIM groups; aims to oversee implementation of the IGIF at global level, provide the strategic leadership and needed resources for implementation and continuous development of the IGIF with Member States and other key stakeholders.

The High-Level Group meeting, held for the first time in the Arab region, brought together 47 participants from various countries, representing member states of the UN-GGIM, attendees included several heads of technical working groups of the UN-GGIM as well as international experts and specialists.

The meeting reviewing the roles and responsibilities associated with the High-Level Group’s priority activities for 2025, as determined by its working groups, which was part of their effort to formulate the plan for the year, contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.

The regional committees of the UN-GGIM for Africa, the Arab states, the Americas, Europe, and the Asia and Pacific presented their key priorities and needs for implementing the IGIF at the regional level. In addition to a presentation by the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework Team of UN-GGIM Arab States Committee, showcase the team's most important achievements and its work plan, including implementation priorities for the year 2025.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the Chair of the UN-GGIM Arab States Committee, presented a report on the committee's achievements during the expanded meeting of the UN-GGIM.This included a look at the future work plan for the technical teams of the Arab Committee (Governance Team, Geodetic Reference Team, Integrated Geospatial Information Framework Team), as well as a joint presentation by Saudi Arabia and South Africa, co-chairs of the Future System Report Writing Team (Geospatial Information Ecosystem), summarizing the team's work and future steps.

Moreover, the Kingdom updating the meeting with the hosting of the United Nations Global Geospatial Ecosystem Center of Excellence, and the progress of actions taken by relevant stakeholders in preparation for the official opening of the center.

As the national regulator, GEOSA is responsible for regulating the sector of survey, geospatial information and imaging in the Kingdom, representing the Kingdom locally and internationally, coordinating and cooperating with its counterparts in other countries as well as relevant international agencies and organizations.
