The General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA) granted General Motors (GM) Middle East a permit to conduct Panoramic Imagery and Comparable Technology within Saudi Arabia. The move forms part of GEOSA's ongoing efforts to regulate, empower, and stimulate the geospatial sector in the Kingdom, while fostering a cutting-edge technological environment based on smart geospatial solutions.

The permit opens new horizons for leveraging advanced panoramic imagery technologies to support smart transportation systems and develop a high-precision digital maps, which enabling advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including GM's hands-free Super Cruise technology. The advanced system utilizes high-definition mapping to deliver optimal safety and precision LiDAR map data, enhance road and occupant safety, and help save lives.

Super Cruise helps to minimize and ideally eliminate human driving error while improve mobility and supporting automotive industry and national innovations in new technologies, in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Super Cruise technology is planned to cover more than 36,000 kilometers of highways across the Kingdom. GM Middle East is the first company in Kingdom to receive approval for such an initiative.

It is worth mentioning that, the General Authority for Surveying and Geospatial Information is responsible, under its mandate, to regulate the sector of survey, geospatial information and imaging in the Kingdom, including licensing sector activities, overseeing the qualification and classification of practitioners, and setting relevant rules .
