Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information GASGI, hosted virtually the 8th Meeting of UN-GGIM Arab States Committee.
The meeting discussed the results of the work of the technical teams of the Arab Committee represented by the working group on institutional frameworks and legal regulations, policies, awareness and capacity building, the working group on basic geospatial data and standards, the working group on the framework of the geodetic reference, in addition to the working group on the integration of geospatial and statistical information, in addition to Approval of hosting the 9Th meeting of the Arab Committee in February 2022 in the United Arab Emirates.
(14) Arab countries participated in the meeting, in addition to the Statistical Center for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in addition to representatives of the secretariat of the UN-GGIM to present the contributions of the United Nations and international institutions to gain access to the best Arab and international experiences in the field of using and developing geospatial works.
The meeting recommended that the national geodetic references should be compatible with the International Geodetic Reference System (ITRS) and the International Geodetic Reference Framework (ITRF).
The meeting approved the request of the State of Libya to join the following working groups: (Institutional frameworks and legal regulations, policies, awareness and capacity building, basic geospatial data and standards, a geodetic reference framework, integration of geospatial and statistical information, and a request to nominate the two vice-chairs of the UN-GGIM Arab States Committee. Geospatial work in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for membership of a high-level group for the Integrated Framework for Geospatial Information, approval to amend the name of the first working group to the Working Group of the Integrated Framework for Geospatial Information, and also the approval of the work plan for the period from 2021-2022 AD in the working groups).
It is noteworthy that the Arab Committee was established in accordance with Resolution No. 4/111 issued by the 4th session of the United Nations Committee of Experts for the Management of Geospatial Information, held in New York in August 2014 AD. Economic, social, and environmental.
It is noteworthy that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the GASGI, was elected Chairman of the Arab Committee of UN-GGIM Arab States Committee in the first meeting of the UN-GGIM Arab States Committee, which was held in Riyadh 5-6 / 5 / 1436H, and it was returned The election of the Kingdom to the presidency and the secretariat of the Arab Committee at the 6th meeting of the Arab Committee, which was held in Jeddah on 13-15 / 6/1440 AH.
